Treatment for Rob Jack and Dean.

Final film idea

Our final film is about a group of teenagers that go camping in the woods which are inhabited by some sort of unknown creature that tries to kill all of them and is successful with all but one who defeats the creature and flee's the forest.

We have adapted this for two minutes to show the creature and the forest by doing a short scene in where a teenage boy who goes for a jog and gets chased and finally dragged away and it is assumed that he is killed. We have done this to show that there is a creature in the forest and set up the rest of the plot.

new plot idea

The new plot is that in the first two minutes:
It takes place in a forest
a man is walking his dog
Alien/creature attacks them, shown by bright light etc.
Credits super imposed onto the video as well as sound bridge


Conventions used:
Supernatural entity as the antagonist.
based around a crime/ blood sport.
male being the victim.


Conventions challenged:
Not having a gun or knife as the weapon of choice.
female being victim.
killer being human or specifically male.


we wish to explore the use of camera shots in our film, this will contribute to the fast paced editing. we will demonstrate a variety of long and close up shots, as well as using specific camera shots such as point of view, panning and tracking, match on action etc. 

plot proposal analysis

 As shown, the ideas that we wished to explore were seen as un-achievable as the content may have been too imaginative and complex for us to fit into the two minute criteria. we required feedback from our colleges and asked for ideas to which would make the idea more achievable. Their feed back was:-

• At 14:30 Sam mentions an idea in which will help towards fitting our possible idea for our film into the 2 minute requirement. by using jump cuts etc we would be able to show the action and government plot that we wanted to use and also make it so the viewer would wish to continue, unlike before hand when they already knew what had happened etc. we have discussed this information and will take it into consideration for our overall product.
•  at 16:02 josh suggests a film that we as a group could watch, which would help us with ideas and conventions to use for our idea. he suggested the film "Vantage Point", this film has been added to a selection which we as a group have viewed for help in our film.
• at 17:05 Mr Hoode gave a fair point in reference to our idea being too extreme. we seemed to have lead to "making a film we want to make, rather than a film we need to make to pass the course" this point was taken into deep consideration and from this we have abolished our initial idea and have created a new, suitable plot which would be doable and suitable to pass the course.
• at 22:00 Matt gave a good idea which helped fit our main convention into a suitable, and less complex film idea which involved the mentally ill man in a shrinks office and showing flashbacks of his past. This was discussed and we did consider using this, had we not abolished the main convention due to its complexity.
